FDNY Edges NYPD Gaels in Thriller

FDNY 1-10 NYPD 0-11

A late FDNY goal doomed the NYPD Gaelic Football Club for yet another year on Friday night at Gaelic Park.  The Fire Department jumped out to an early lead, but the Gaels countered the attack and were within a point by halftime.  The second half teetered back and forth with both clubs having the lead for stretches, but the ball found the back of the PD net with only three minutes to go, capping off a hard fought match between the rivals.  The Gaels were inspired by the strong play of club veteran Pat Donohue, who boomed several points over the bar from full forward, keeping the blueshirts in the game to the end.

Although not on the scoreboard, the match was a rousing success as the NYPD Gaelic Football Club was proud to play in front of the largest crowd in its nearly forty year history in honor of First Grade Detective Terry McGhee.  The overwhelming support for the game is a true testament of the man Terry is.  The entire club is extremely thankful to all of our supporters who made it up on Friday night!

We'll have plenty of photos of the match on the website and on our Facebook page by Monday afternoon.  If you're not already, become a fan of the club on Facebook by clicking the link below!
